Delete account and data

This page describes how to request deletion of your EpiHem account and personal data. You have the right to request deletion under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, Article 17 - the "right to be forgotten"). See our Privacy Policy for a full description of how we process your data.

1. What will be deleted

When your deletion request is processed, the following are permanently removed from our systems:

  • Your profile - name, email address, profile picture, and sign-in identifier (Firebase user ID).
  • Uploaded images tied to your profile - your avatar, receipt photos, and recipe photos.
  • Your Firebase Authentication record - your sign-in account with our authentication provider, Google Firebase.
  • Push notification tokens - device tokens used to send notifications to your devices.
  • Household data if you are the last remaining member of a household. This includes receipts, recipes, meal plans, calendar events, checklists, tags, custom ingredients, projects, budgets, household settings, and invite codes belonging to that household.

2. If you share a household with others

Data created within a household (checklists, receipts, meal plans, calendar events, etc.) belongs to the household. If other members remain in the household when you request deletion:

  • Your personal profile is deleted.
  • Your membership in the household is removed.
  • Household data remains for the remaining members, but references linking you to individual records (e.g. "created by") are anonymized.

If you want all household data to be permanently deleted, the entire household must be removed by the household owner before you leave - or you must first transfer ownership to someone else and then request deletion of the household.

3. How to request deletion

3.1 In the app

You can delete your account directly in the EpiHem app: Settings → Delete my account. You'll first see what will be removed, then be asked to type a confirmation word before the deletion starts. If you own a household with other members, you can designate a successor to take over ownership before your account is removed.

3.2 By email

You can always request deletion by sending an email to privacy@epihem.com.

  • Subject: "Data deletion request"
  • Body: The email address associated with your EpiHem account so that we can identify you.

We may ask for additional verification if we cannot confirm your identity from the sender email address. This is to protect your account against unauthorized deletion.

4. Timeline

Deletion is completed within 14 days of us verifying your request. In practice most deletions happen faster - often immediately or within a few days. The 14-day window allows time for technical backups to roll over and be confirmed purged.

5. What we may need to retain

Some data may need to be retained after your account is deleted, for legal reasons:

  • Accounting records - if you have paid for a Premium subscription, we are required under the Swedish Bookkeeping Act (1999:1078) to retain invoice records for seven (7) years. These records are disassociated from your account but kept in our accounting system.

6. If you change your mind

Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. We have no copy of your data once deletion is complete. If you change your mind before the deletion is finalized (within the 14-day window), contact privacy@epihem.com and we will cancel the process if technically possible.
